Our Purpose

Hakutaku was born to help organisations during the COVID pandemic. We are knowledgeable about technology, and our goal is to be a force for good, to improve the lives of our partners, suppliers, customers, and ultimately, the world.

As a tech for good company, we seek to imbue purpose in all the work we do.

This purpose drives the projects we undertake.

Sustainability & Environment

We take sustainability very seriously, and share the ethos behind the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As the world is in the middle of a Climate Emergency, we take our role in climate change seriously. This means that we aim to be carbon neutral or better. We plan to do so, among other things, by:

  • Utilising a portion of our profits to go back into Carbon Negative Projects. We currently partner with Ecologi which aids us in this process.
  • We use Carbon Neutral data centers for digital projects we host, thanks to our partnership with Google Cloud Platform.
  • Any paper products we produce are always either from FSC sustainably managed forests, or 100% recycled.
  • When we are finished with physical products, we recycle or reuse, and always dispose of them in a way that is considered.
  • We only use renewable energy, where possible, and look to offset any emissions we do make.
  • E-waste such as electronics and batteries are disposed of correctly.
  • We aim to produce zero waste to landfill / ocean, and are currently working on a way to track such waste for remote workers.

Allyship & Human Rights

Founded by a member of the LQBT community, we know only a few of the hardships faced by our underrepresented peers.

We support the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We fundamentally believe every human has the right to basic human rights, regardless of their race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. As such, we will not provide services to any business, organisation or government that:

  • Fails to uphold basic human rights within its sphere of influence
  • Does not acknowledge the rights of indigenous peoples
  • Manufactures or transfers weapons, torture equipment or other equipment that is used in the violation of human rights, or armaments supplied to oppressive regimes
  • Has links to an oppressive regime that are a continuing cause for concern
  • Advocates discrimination and incitement to hatred.

We do this by auditing our suppliers and customers to ensure we do not contribute or aid in human right violations through our supply chain, actions or words. This is both done through supplier surveys, and internal investigation.

We as a business do not tolerate abusive behaviour, language or actions to any individual, or underrepresented group. We plan to positively ally with many groups and ensure that we support them in the fundamental way in which we operate.

Ethical practice means that we treat everyone equally. We are open and transparent about our process’, and we are authentic when we communicate.

As Hakutaku grows, we intend to make more and more of our business practices transparent. This document is the first step in creating accountability and transparency in the organization.
